'Pokemon Duel' Launches on iOS, Android

'Pokemon Duel' Launches on iOS, Android

Are you bored with Pokemon Go? The Pokemon Company has a new strategy board game for your mobile device, dubbed Pokemon Duel.

The new title lets you build a deck of your favorite characters and compete with players from around the world in League Matches. The object of the game is to be the first player to get one of your figures to your opponent's goal.

Sounds simple, but getting to the goal will require some strategic movements.

"You'll need to carefully choose your route," the app's description reads. "In duels, you and your opponent take turns moving your figures. Set up a strategic formation and attack your opponent, or simply block their path—it's all about tactics!"

At the start of each duel, you'll select six Pokemon figures for your team. There's all kinds of Pokemon, each with different strengths and a set number of steps it can take, so choose wisely.

When you land next to one of your opponent's Pokemon, you'll need to engage in battle to advance.

"Battles are determined by Attacks on each Pokemon's Data Disk—spin the disk to see which Attack each Pokemon will use," The Pokemon Company explained. "Try to Knock Out the opposing Pokemon or cause it to move out of your way!"

You can also opt to use a plate at the start of your turn. These have different effects, like letting you swap the position of Pokemon in play, or giving your Pokemon different enhancements for that turn.

As you get better at the game, you'll get more powerful Pokemon to improve your team. You can also use an action called fusion to raise the level of your Pokemon and enhance their power.

"By fusing a Pokemon figure that you're not using with one on your main team, you can increase the damage of your Pokemon's attacks while reducing the amount you miss," The Pokemon Company explained.

There's also a Training Center where you can collect items like Pokemon figures, plates, and Gems as you duel against an instructor.

The game has a big online component, letting you duel against real opponents any time you want. Just tap the "League Match" button on the Home screen to get started. "Players will be matched according to their skill level, so you can enjoy a duel against other players who have records similar to yours," The Pokemon Company said.

Pokemon Duel is available for iPhone and iPad in the App Store, and for Android devices on Google Play
